Lory Summer Trail Series
The Lory Summer Trail Series consists of four midweek running events held during August at Lory State Park in Fort Collins, Colorado. These races use the trail systems within the park and offer varying distances and terrain profiles. The events are timed using chips attached to participant bibs, and points are awarded for each race to determine series winners at the conclusion of the final event.
The series features several distance options across different dates:
- 5 km (Flat and Fast Eltuck Valley) with 250 feet of elevation gain.
- 5 km (Into the Hills Eltuck) with 700 feet of elevation gain.
- 10 km (Into the Hills Eltuck) with 1,700 feet of elevation gain.
- 12 km (Flat and Fast Eltuck Valley) with 500 feet of elevation gain.
These are considered no-frills races, and there is no aid provided on the course. While the 5 km Eltuck Valley course is described as fast and flat, other distances include significant elevation changes. Participants are required to stay on the trails and yield to other park users, including pedestrians and horses. Dogs are not permitted on the course with runners, and mechanical aids such as poles are prohibited unless prior approval is granted.
All participants can select a vintage race shirt at the event. After the completion of the runs, pizza and beverages are provided at the Eltuck Picnic Area. Registration for the Eltuck Valley 5 km is capped at 125 participants. Attendees who do not possess a Colorado State Parks Pass must purchase a daily pass upon park entry.
