Wild West Relay
The Wild West Relay is a point-to-point running event that spans 200 miles across Colorado. The course consists of 36 legs, beginning at the Budweiser Brewing Plant in the foothills of Fort Collins. Participants run through open spaces and deep into the Rocky Mountains, crossing two mountain passes before reaching the finish line at Steamboat Springs Ski Resort.
The event offers several team categories and participation levels:
- 12 person team (7-12 runners)
- Ultra team (4-6 runners)
- Super Ultra team (1-3 runners)
- High School Team
Most teams consist of twelve runners utilizing two vehicles, while Ultra teams typically use one vehicle. Solo participation is also available as an unsanctioned race.
Participants can manage their progress through live GPS tracking via a dedicated athlete app, which provides maps and race updates. Mandatory equipment checks and packet pickups are conducted in Fort Collins on the Thursday before the race or on the morning of the start. Teams have the option to provide two volunteers to assist with race operations or pay a volunteer fee to support local nonprofit groups. Additionally, runners who complete both this event and the Flaming Foliage Relay in the same year are eligible for a specialized belt buckle.
