Wild West Relay
The Wild West Relay is an overnight team road relay that runs across Colorado from the foothills of Fort Collins into the Rocky Mountains and finishes in Steamboat Springs. The course covers 200 miles, is divided into 36 legs, and crosses two mountain passes.
Event entries list several team categories and fees. The published categories include a 12 person team (7–12 runners) with a registration fee of $2,010.00, an Ultra team (4–6 runners) with a fee of $1,200.00, a Super Ultra team (1–3 runners) with a fee of $700.00, and a High School team with a fee of $719.00. Team configurations described include twelve runners with two vehicles or six runners with one vehicle, and other team sizes are noted in the event entries.
A single team captain handles initial registration and payment, sets the team name and password, and shares that information so teammates can join the team without additional registration cost. The event relies on a large volunteer effort; organizers note more than 130 volunteers on course. Each team chooses between supplying volunteers for runner exchanges or making a tax-deductible donation to Windsor Gives, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that helps provide volunteers. The team captain is the person who selects the volunteer option and completes payment during registration. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
