Wild West Relay
The Wild West Relay is a point to point road relay across Colorado that covers 200 miles over 36 legs. The course begins in Fort Collins and finishes at Steamboat Springs Ski Resort, passing through open spaces and the Rocky Mountains and crossing two mountain passes. The event uses public roads that remain open to traffic.
The event offers multiple team entry categories, including 12 person teams, Ultra teams (4–6 runners), Super Ultra teams (1–3 runners), and a High School team category. Solo participation is noted on event materials as an option outside standard team categories. Typical team setups include one or two support vehicles depending on the team size.
Mandatory gear check and packet pickup are provided in Fort Collins the day before the race and again on race morning one hour before a team start time. The start location is the Budweiser Brewing old tour facility parking lot in Fort Collins.
Safety and timing rules address open traffic and exchanges. Runners must obey volunteers and stop for guidance; traffic will not be halted for runners. If a team risks missing an exchange cutoff due to pace, the next runner may begin their assigned leg early under specified conditions: adjustments must be recorded in team time logs, communicated to exchange volunteers, teams cannot leave an exchange before its open time, and must leave by its closed time.
Teams may supply volunteers or pay a volunteer fee that is payable to the nonprofit Windsor Gives. The event depends on a large volunteer network. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
