Lock 2 Lock Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K

The Lock 2 Lock event on Saturday, September 12, 2026, takes place along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath in Williamsport, Maryland. The course is BQ certified (MD22006NP) and 2026 times can be used for 2027 Boston Marathon qualification.

Distances

• Marathon: two out and back loops of 6.56 miles each for a total of 26.2 miles.
• Half Marathon: one out and back loop of 6.56 miles each way for 13.1 miles.
• 10K: 3.1 miles out and 3.1 miles back for 6.2 miles.

Course and aid stations

• Marathon maximum elevation change is no more than 40 feet, half marathon no more than 20 feet, 10K no more than 10 feet.
• Aid stations are placed along the course and are stocked with water, Gatorade Endurance, pickle juice, potato chips and other snacks. A tarp at the start and finish serves as a drop area for race items.

• Start and finish are located near Lock 44 on the towpath; parking at Lock 44 is limited. Participants are asked to use Cushwa Basin or Williamsport Park parking lots and walk roughly 0.25 miles to the lockhouse.
• Four portable toilets will be placed in the Lock 44 parking lot and an additional unit is located at mile 4.
• Packet pickup is available at designated locations in the days before the race and on race morning at Lock 44.
• All finishers receive a race t-shirt and a custom medal. Awards include Top 3 male and Top 3 female and overall masters awards in each distance. Age group awards are offered for marathon and half marathon.
• The towpath surface varies and is generally a dirt road with potholes, roots, rocks and possible mud and puddles.
