Lock 2 Lock Marathon, Half Marathon and 10K
The Lock 2 Lock Marathon is an annual running event held in Williamsport, Maryland. The event takes place entirely along the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal Towpath, with all race distances starting and finishing near Lock 44. This competition features a flat terrain, with the maximum elevation gain for the longest distance reaching no more than 40 feet.
Participants can choose from three main distances:
- Marathon (26.2 miles): A Boston Marathon qualifying course (MD22006NP) consisting of two out-and-back loops between Lock 44 and Lock 43.
- Half Marathon (13.1 miles): One out-and-back loop starting at Lock 44, traveling 6.56 miles toward Lock 43, and returning.
- 10k (6.2 miles): A 3.1-mile out-and-back route on the towpath heading toward Washington D.C. before returning to the start.
The course is supported by multiple aid stations located at regular intervals along the path. These stations provide water, electrolyte drinks, pickle juice, and various snacks such as potato chips. For those participating in the full marathon, a designated area at the start-finish line allows for the storage of personal items like gels or water bottles. The event has specific cutoff times for each distance, with the marathon allowing a pace of 17 minutes and 11 seconds per mile. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
