Festival of Running in the Scottish Highlands
The Loch Ness Marathon is a long-distance running event held in Scotland, taking participants along the shores of the world-famous Loch Ness. The route features scenery through the Highlands, starting in a rural location and finishing in Inverness, the Highland capital. The event is scheduled for Sunday 27 September 2026.
Participants can choose from several different distances and challenges:
- Marathon (42.195 km)
- River Ness 10K
- 10K Corporate Challenge (teams of 4 to 6 employees)
- River Ness 5K
- Wee Nessie (a children's run)
The marathon entry fee includes transport to the start line, a commemorative finisher's medal, a technical t-shirt, a goody bag, and electronic timing. A downloadable finisher's certificate and post-race food are also provided to runners. The finish area features a festival atmosphere for both participants and spectators.
While fundraising is not mandatory, the event partners with various charities to support causes such as cancer research, hospice care, and mental health. A sports expo and a festival take place during the event weekend, providing additional activities for visitors.
