Festival of Running in the Scottish Highlands
The Loch Ness Marathon is a long-distance running event held in Scotland, taking participants along the shores of Loch Ness and through the scenery of the Highlands. The event finishes in Inverness, the cultural capital of the region. The marathon weekend features a variety of distances and activities, including a sports expo and a festival at the finish line.
Participants in the marathon receive transport to the starting point. The entry fee covers several items for runners across different categories:
- Marathon: 42.195 km
- River Ness 10K & Corporate Challenge: 10 km
- River Ness 5K: 5 km
- Wee Nessie: Kids' run
All finishers receive a commemorative medal, a technical t-shirt, and a goody bag. For the marathon and 10K events, electronic timing is provided, and runners can download a finisher's certificate after the race. Complimentary post-race food is also included for participants.
While the event hosts several official charity partners, fundraising is optional for all entrants. The course provides views of the Scottish Highlands, and the final stretch leads runners into the heart of Inverness. The event is supported by international travel packages and local accommodation options for those visiting the area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
