Ligonier's Summer Solstice 5K
Ligonier's Summer Solstice 5K is a community benefit event supporting the Ligonier Borough Volunteer Fire Company. The event is held annually around the summer solstice and replaces the former Set Your Year On Fire 5K. The venue is behind Weller Field and Friendship Park at 203 Boquet Street, Ligonier, PA 15658.
Distances:
- 5K Run - 3.1 miles
- 5K Walk - 3.1 miles
The course is primarily an out-and-back on the Ligonier Valley Trail. The route begins near Weller Field, turns onto a bridge about 0.25 miles in, follows the trail for 1.62 miles to a prominent white historical sign used as the turnaround, and returns along the same route. The finish is in the lower parking lot, aligned with the first batting cages. A water stop is located at the trailhead by the baseball field and is passed twice during the race. The course is described as mostly flat with generally good forward and rear visibility; weather and trail conditions may cause puddles or uneven spots.
Timing uses gun start with chip finish and bibs should be worn on the front for proper readout. The event enforces a 1 hour 5 minute time limit. Awards are given to top 3 male and female overall and to top 3 in specified age groups for both run and walk divisions; awards are not mailed. Registration fees vary by date and a shirt deadline and pickup policy apply. Pets on leash, strollers, and headphones are permitted under event rules. No refunds or transfers are offered.
