Ligonier's Summer Solstice 5k
The event is a community 5K held in Ligonier on June 21, 2026, as a direct benefit for the Ligonier Borough Volunteer Fire Company. It offers two entries over the same distance:
- 5K Run - 3.1 miles
- 5K Walk - 3.1 miles
The course is an out-and-back route that uses the Ligonier Valley Trail. The route begins near Weller Field and Friendship Park, crosses a bridge about 0.25 miles in, follows the trail for roughly 1.62 miles to a marked turnaround, and returns to a lower parking lot finish by the batting cages. Two road crossings on the trail will be managed by staff. The surface is mostly flat and straight, but the trail can have puddles or uneven spots.
Timing uses gun timing with a mass start and chip finish. A water station is located at the trailhead near the baseball field and will be passed twice. The event includes a custom bib, chip timing, post-race snacks, a race sticker, and a custom unisex shirt if ordered before the firm shirt deadline of May 31. Shirt pick-up and bib pickup occur at the trailhead by the finish area.
Awards are given to the top 3 male and top 3 female overall and top 3 in age groups for both run and walk; awards will not be mailed. The event enforces a 1 hour 05 minute time limit. Day-of registration is allowed; day-of payments are cash or check only. Pets on leash, strollers, and headphones are permitted with behavioral rules and cleanup requirements.
