Freedom 5K in Greensburg
The Freedom 5K is held at Lynch Field in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, and includes in-person run and walk events plus a virtual 5K option. In-person entries and virtual entries share the same 5K distance and a listed registration fee of $17.76. Registration opens February 14, 2027 and closes March 31, 2027. Early packet pickup and in person registration are scheduled at the Gingerbreadman Running store on July 3.
The course is an out and back that starts and finishes at Lynch Field. Runners and walkers are asked to stay to the right half of the trail, especially in the tunnel and on curves, and to remain on the main parts of overpass bridges. A water station is placed before the 1 mile mark outbound and after the 2 mile mark on the return. Participants are advised not to run on train tracks; one intersection is crossed and city traffic control will be present.
Awards are offered for overall and age group results. Top 3 male and female runners are awarded by gun time. Other awards use chip time and include top male and female masters (age 40+) and top 3 walkers by gender. Runner age group categories: 15 and under; 16-19; 20-24; 25-29; 30-34; 35-39; 40-44; 45-49; 50-54; 55-59; 60-64; 65-69; 70 and over. Walker age groups: 20-39; 40-49; 50-59; 60-69; 70 and over. Teams must be registered by July 3.
A Kids Sparkler event for ages 10 and under is held near the soccer field lawn with a separate entry fee of $10 per child and multiple heats. Timing is provided by Gingerbreadman Running. The event benefits the American Heart Association. Virtual participants may complete their 5K during July and submit times for results and shirt pickup after the event.
