Event Overview
The Freedom 5k is a community athletic event held in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, with the main race taking place at Lynch Field. This event marks the 25th anniversary of the race and benefits the American Heart Association. The course is designed as an out and back route along a trail, featuring an overpass bridge and a tunnel.
Participants can choose from the following event categories:
- 5K Run
- 5K Walk
- Virtual Freedom 5k (available from July 1 to July 31)
- Kids Sparkler (for children aged 10 and under)
The live 5K events utilize a wave start system to organize participants by pace. Wave assignments are based on estimated finishing times for runners, with a final wave dedicated to walkers. The course includes water stations located before the one-mile mark and after the two-mile mark.
Registration is capped at 500 live entries. Team participation is available for both runners and walkers, with categories for male, female, and coed groups of at least three members. Awards are presented to the top three male and female finishers, masters winners, and various age group leaders across both running and walking divisions. Participants in the virtual event can upload their times and collect event shirts from a local running store following the race period.
