Freedom 5K - Greensburg
The Freedom 5K takes place on July 4, 2026 in Greensburg, Pennsylvania, marking the 25th edition of the event during the USA 250th anniversary. The event offers live 5K run and walk options at Lynch Field and a Virtual Freedom 5K that can be completed anytime in July. The event benefits the American Heart Association.
The course is out and back. Participants are asked to keep to the right side of the trail in the tunnel and around its curve. There is a water station located before the one mile mark on the outbound leg and another after the two mile mark on the return. Runners should avoid running on train tracks and stay on the main parts of overpass bridges. The course crosses one intersection with city traffic control in place.
Race organization includes wave starts separated by expected pace categories, chip timing for most awards, and overall awards by gun time for the top three male and female runners. Additional awards include masters, walkers, and age group categories listed by runner and walker age brackets. Teams must be registered by July 3. Timing is provided by Gingerbreadman Running.
Registration opened February 14. Early registration fee is $17.76 through March 31. Subsequent published fees change in tiers with reduced pricing for youth and seniors. Packet pickup and in person registration are available at Gingerbreadman Running store the day before the race and goody bags include door prize items. A kids Sparkler event for ages 10 and under is held near the soccer field lawn with multiple heats and a separate fee. The organizers note a cap on live entries and a refund policy if the event is canceled due to a public health crisis or other major disruption.
