About the race
The Lightning Bolt 10k is one race in a five-event Lightning Bolt 10k series held in Langley Burrell, Chippenham, Wiltshire SN15 4LL. The event is run over a measured 10 km course with an elevation change of 14 metres. The course is officially measured and registered with UKA/Run Britain and uses chip timing. Distance markers are provided every mile.
Club and team awards form a key part of the event. A Mixed Team award is based on the category positions of the top three male and top three female finishers, with a minimum requirement of three male and three female finishers to qualify. Separate awards are given to the fastest male team and fastest female team, each decided on the aggregate of four finishers. Additional awards include the club bringing the most runners and a prize for the team judged to have shown the best spirit.
Practical details noted for participants include an approximate 1 km walk from the village hall race headquarters to the start and about 500 metres from the finish back to race HQ. Pacers are available from 35 to 75 minutes. Medals are optional at registration to reduce waste and entry costs. The event is suitable for visually impaired runners if the organiser is notified in advance; it is not suitable for wheelchair athletes. A time limit of 1 hour 15 minutes applies.
