Event overview

Amberaid is a trail running event based at Ashover Village Hall in Ashover, Chesterfield (S45 0BA). Two course options are offered: a 31 mile Amberaid route and a 20 mile Petit Raid (the Northern Loop). The event is open to participants aged 18 or older. Every finisher receives a medal and there are trophies for the first male and female in each race.

Course and logistics

The full route forms a figure of 8 through the Amber Valley near the eastern edge of the Peak District. The terrain uses countryside paths, trails and woodland and includes punchy climbs and steep descents. The route is largely unmarked, with a few trickier sections marked; route notes and a GPX file are provided. Runners must pass a number of self-clips on the course.

There are four checkpoints on the Amberaid route:

  • CP1 - Tupton (7 miles)
  • CP2 - Wessington (13 miles, food and water)
  • CP3 - Fritchley (20 miles)
  • CP4 - Wessington (26 miles, food and water)

Each checkpoint provides water; CP2 and CP4 also supply food items such as granola bars, flapjacks, bananas and savoury options. The event has a 9 hour time limit. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
