The terrain is undulating countryside with woodland trails, climbs and descents. The route is largely unmarked; route notes and GPX files are provided. Participants are advised to carry a paper map as backup.

Checkpoints and support are provided along the route. Every checkpoint supplies water; CP1, CP2 and CP4 also provide food. Checkpoint locations by mile are CP1 Tupton at 7 miles, CP2 Wessington at 13.5 miles, CP3 Fritchley at 20 miles (Amberaid only) and CP4 Wessington at 25.5 miles (Amberaid only).

There is a nine hour time limit and a CP2 cutoff that may redirect runners onto the Petit Raid route if missed.
