Event Overview
The Leith Harbour Free 5/10km is a community running event held in Dunedin that utilizes the Te Aka Ōtākou shared path. The event provides participants with two distance options:
- 5 km distance
- 10 km distance
The course is designed to be accessible for different types of users, and the route is noted as being friendly for both wheelchairs and prams. Participants are required to collect their bibs prior to the start of the event at the designated meeting area.
Course Layout
The event alternates between two different course configurations along the harbor. Both courses follow an out-and-back format where runners reach a specific turnaround point before returning to the initial starting area.
Course 1 is located on the West Harbour section of the path. It begins and ends near the corner of Magnet Street and Neptune Street. The 5 km turnaround is marked by a long white ribbon situated between two red painted fence poles. The 10 km turnaround point is located opposite a car park area near a red painted fence pole.
Course 2 starts and finishes near Kitchener Street by Watercooled Sports. For this route, the 5 km turnaround point is positioned at the entrance to the Vauxhall Yacht Club car park. The 10 km participants continue further to a turnaround point marked by a tree located just past two log benches. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
