Legend of the Peaks
Legend of the Peaks is a running and walking festival held in the Whakarewarewa Forest in Rotorua, Aotearoa New Zealand. Events use off road and trail terrain and are based at Event HQ, Waipa MTB Carpark, Rotorua, Waipa State Mill Rd.
Race distances offered include:
- 50.2 km Whaka Ultra with approximately 2240 m elevation gain.
- 42.9 km New Zealand Forest Marathon with approximately 1750 m elevation gain.
- 21.3 km Moerangi Half Marathon with approximately 950 m elevation gain.
- 10.5 km Titokorangi 10K with approximately 430 m elevation gain.
- ~5.8 to 6.1 km Secret Spot Hot Tubs 5K Trig Loop with approximately 145 m elevation gain.
- 2 km and 3 km kids loops and Koeke Classic short loops.
The New Zealand Forest Marathon route circumnavigates four named peaks: Kohaturoa Pohaturoa, Titokorangi, Moerangi and Kakapiko. The PAK'nSAVE Rotorua Kids Forest Run is for Years 0 to 8 and includes 2 km and 3 km options. The Koeke Classic is a non timed short loop available as a 2 km or 3 km course and includes a finishers medal.
Most main races are scheduled for Saturday 7 November 2026. Kids events and the Koeke Classic take place on Friday 6 November 2026. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
