Event Overview
The Leeds Canal Side Run takes place on the Leeds-Liverpool Canal, starting from Granary Wharf in Leeds City Centre. The event features a flat, out-and-back course that follows the canal towpath through Kirkstall and beyond. Participants run on a traffic-free route consisting of good trail and towpath terrain, offering scenic views of the waterway.
The event provides a variety of distances to suit different preferences:
- 10 km
- 10 miles
- Half Marathon
- 20 miles (2 x 10 mile laps)
- Marathon (2 x half marathon laps)
- Ultra Marathon (2 x half marathon + 10 km)
Participant Information
All races are Trail Running Association licensed and held under UKA rules. The event is cup-less to minimize environmental impact, so participants must bring their own reusable bottles or cups. Feed and drink stations offering snacks and refreshments are positioned approximately every 3 miles. At the finish, participants receive a bespoke medal and treats.
Logistics
The registration point is located at Granary Wharf, which is situated directly behind Leeds Station. While there is no parking at the immediate start or finish area, several city centre car parks are available within walking distance. Toilet facilities are located near the registration area. Participants should note that large over-ear headphones are not permitted for safety reasons, though bone conduction or single-ear headphones are allowed.
