SMCSO Law Enforcement Torch Run Ruck
The St. Mary’s County Sheriff’s Office Law Enforcement Torch Run Ruck in Leonardtown, Maryland takes place on Saturday, September 12, 2026, at 23995 Point Lookout Rd. The event benefits Special Olympics Maryland and offers two participation options: an individual chip timed 5K run and a four person team ruck.
The 5K run is an individual, chip timed event with recognition for the top three finishers in each age and gender category. The team ruck requires exactly four members, each 18 or older, and teams may be same sex or coed. Teams must register and pay the registration fee per person by August 31, 2026 at 12:00 pm; registration includes shirts for each member and one timed bib.
Ruck rules require participants to speed walk only; jogging or running is not permitted. Female ruckers must start and finish with a dry rucksack or backpack weighing 40 pounds while male ruckers must carry 55 pounds. Weighted vests are not allowed. Teams supply their own rucksacks and weights, which will be weighed before and after the ruck. A designated team leader must wear the chipped bib and ensure each sack is weighed and marked. Teams must stay together and cross the finish line together or within arm reach, with the team time recorded when the last member crosses. Near the end of the course there are three team challenges that may be completed without the rucksack but the sack must be replaced afterward.
