Laurel Memorial Run/Walk
The Laurel Memorial Run/Walk is a two-day community event held in mid July. It combines a long-distance relay and in-person races in Silver Creek, New York, with paid and free virtual participation options. Proceeds support services for people with Down syndrome and other developmental disabilities at The Resource Center and related funds for employment, advocacy, and dental services.
Day one features a 31-mile Jamestown-to-Dunkirk relay, including an option for a single runner to cover the entire route. The relay is geared mainly toward high school students but is open to other volunteers; most relay legs are about three miles. Day two in Silver Creek includes multiple races and family activities held in the village square. Paid registrants receive a T-shirt and a commemorative medal made by people with intellectual and developmental disabilities; a registration fee may be waived for participants who raise at least $50 in pledges.
Race details include cash prizes for top overall finishers in the 8K and age-group medals for the 5K and 8K. Team awards are based on the combined times of each team’s first four finishers. The 5K course has two water stations and the 8K course has four. Parking is available in the Rite Aid lot across the street from the village square.
