Last of the Felascans
Last of the Felascans is a backyard ultra held at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park in Alachau, FL. Participants run a 4.167 mile loop each hour; a runner is eliminated if they fail to complete a loop within that hour. The loop follows trails by day and a dirt road after dark; there is no pavement on either course. The loop distance is 100 divided by 24, so completing 24 consecutive loops equals 100 miles. There is no predefined finish; the winner is the competitor who completes a loop that no other competitor completes. If no competitor outlasts every other competitor, there is no winner.
Race rules require runners to be in the starting corral when the bell rings, to start when the bell rings, and to receive no assistance after the bell until they complete the yard. Crews may not assist runners on course. There are no aid stations on course and no aid allowed outside the start and finish area. Each runner may set up a maximum 10' x 10' base camp at the start and finish. Bathrooms and water will be available at the start and finish, and ice may be available. Whistles will sound at three, two, and one minute before each loop start. Shirts will be available and the Last Person Standing receives a special trophy. There are no refunds; entry fees for dropouts are donated to the Friends of San Felasco. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
