Event Format
The Last of the Felascans is a backyard ultra event. The competition involves runners completing a loop of 4.167 miles every hour. Runners are eliminated if they fail to complete a loop within the hour. The event continues until only one runner remains; that last person standing is declared the winner.
The loop course uses trails during daylight hours and a dirt road after dark. There is no pavement on the course. Each loop distance is designed so that running for a full 24 hours would equal 100 miles.
Event Details
Each runner is allocated a 10'x10' area at the start/finish to set up a base camp. No aid stations are provided on the course, and no aid is permitted outside the start/finish area. Water and bathrooms will be available at the start/finish. Ice may also be available. Runners are given a whistle at the three-, two-, and one-minute marks before the start of each loop (or "yard").
Participants receive a race shirt. The last person standing receives a special trophy. The event is held at San Felasco Hammock Preserve State Park, a protected area of over 7,000 acres known for its plant diversity and geological features.
Rules
The primary rules state that runners must be in the starting corral when the bell rings, must start running when the bell rings, and are allowed no assistance after the bell rings until they complete the loop. Crews are not permitted on the course; interaction is only allowed at the runner's base camp area.
Refunds
Registration fees are non-refundable. Any fees from runners who drop out will be donated to the Friends of San Felasco organization. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
