UF Homecoming & Gator Growl - Chomp for Charity 5k
The Chomp for Charity 5k is a running event held in Gainesville, Florida, as part of the UF Homecoming & Gator Growl celebrations. The race follows a route through Depot Park in the downtown area. This event serves as a fundraiser for the Humane Society of North Central Florida, a local no-kill shelter that provides adoption services, low-cost veterinary care, and fostering programs.
The event features a single distance:
- 3.1 Miles (5k)
The race begins at First Magnitude Brewing Company. Participants are organized into groups and paired with animals from the Humane Society to run for, and dogs from the shelter are present at the venue. The event is open to students, families, and community members of all ages.
Live music is provided during the pre-race period by the Petty Theft Band. For those driving to the location, parking is available at the First Magnitude Brewing or Depot Park parking lots. Prizes are awarded to the participants who place in the top three within the men's and women's categories. Registration is available leading up to the race and on the day of the event, though a price increase applies for day-of entries. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
