Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra
The Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra is a repeating loop race held at Alum Creek State Park on the Alum Creek Hiking Trail in Lewis Center, OH, near 4450 Africa Road. The course is a 4.167 mile loop that runs through grass ski paths and single track trails with moderate elevation changes of about 100 to 200 feet per loop. Trails are generally dry and runnable in August but may have rain and muddy low spots. Organizers will place solar landscape lights on the trail for hazards during overnight hours, and headlamps are recommended for night loops.
The event follows standard backyard ultra rules. Each loop must be completed within an hour and all runners must start the next loop at the designated bell. Late starts are not permitted and competitors may not leave the course during a loop except to use restrooms. No crewing or outside aid is allowed while on course and no artificial aids such as trekking poles are permitted. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items will be available at the start and finish area. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other runners are recorded as DNF. If no runner manages one more loop than the others, there is no winner.
Tents may be set up the evening before the event. Ample parking is available at the Galena Boat Ramp parking area off Africa Road and portable restrooms will be provided on course and at the start and finish area. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
