Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra
The Last Buckeye Standing is a backyard ultra held at Alum Creek State Park in Lewis Center, OH. The format uses a repeating loop of 4.167 miles. Each loop must be completed within one hour to count; runners who do not finish a loop in the allotted time or who fail to be at the starting corral when the bell sounds are eliminated. A loop is counted only if it is completed within the hour.
The course follows the Alum Creek Hiking Trail along the Alum Creek Reservoir. Terrain includes grass ski paths and single track trails with moderate elevation changes, typically about 100 to 200 feet per loop. Trails are normally dry and runnable in August but may be wet or muddy in low-lying spots after rain. Night loops require personal lighting; organizers will place some solar landscape lights but those do not replace a headlamp.
Key event rules state no late starts, no leaving the course during a loop except for restrooms, no noncompetitors on the course, no crewing or outside aid during a loop, and no artificial aids such as trekking poles. Runners are responsible for their own nutrition and aid. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food items will be available at the start and finish. The winner is the last person to complete a loop; all other finishers are recorded as DNF and there is no second place. The event is organized by Greenswell Events and is an officially sanctioned Lazarus Lake backyard ultra.
Parking is available at the Galena Boat Ramp Parking Area off Africa Road. Portable restrooms will be provided on course and at the start and finish. Volunteers receive a race t shirt and a 25 percent discount code for another trail race. The listed entry fee is 189.87 USD. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
