Last Buckeye Standing Backyard Ultra
The Last Buckeye Standing is a backyard ultra held at Alum Creek State Park near Lewis Center, Ohio. The format uses a repeating loop of 4.167 mile (6.7 km) that begins on the hour; each loop must be completed within one hour to count. Runners who do not return within the hour or who are not on the start line at the top of the hour are eliminated. The official winner is the last runner to complete a loop; all others are recorded as DNF. If no runner completes one more loop than anyone else, there is no winner.
The course follows the Alum Creek Hiking Trail along the reservoir, with grass ski paths and single-track sections and moderate elevation changes of about 100-200 ft per loop. Trails are typically dry in August but may include rain or mud in low-lying areas. Organizers will place solar landscape lights on the trail for hazards, but participants should plan lighting for night loops. Standard Backyard Ultra rules apply, including no outside aid during a loop, no artificial aids, and a responsibility for personal nutrition and pacing. Water and a limited supply of prepackaged food will be available at the start/finish area. Parking is available at the Galena Boat Ramp parking area off Africa Road, and tents may be set up the evening before the event. The event is organized by Greenswell Events and an entry fee is listed as USD 163.25. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
