The Official Las Cruces Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot
The Official Las Cruces Thanksgiving Day Turkey Trot is an annual event held at the LCPS Field of Dreams in Las Cruces, New Mexico. The event features multiple distance options held on a closed course that starts and ends on the Field of Dreams Track. Participants can choose from several categories:
- 10K Run
- 5K Run
- 1 Mile FunRun
The courses are characterized by their flat terrain, with approximately 11 feet of elevation gain across paved surfaces. Participants in the 5K event run along Motel Boulevard and Bruins Road, while the 10K route includes sections on the City of Las Cruces Mesilla Drain and Outfall Channel trails. All events utilize chip timing for results.
Registration is free for runners age 14 and under. All participants receive a themed bib and a slice of pumpkin pie after finishing the race. Paid entries also receive a technical shirt or a beanie and race swag. The event provides free snacks and drinks for runners. Additional features include a costume contest, prizes for the largest team, and digital race photos and finisher videos tagged by bib number.
The event serves as a donation drive for El Caldito, and a portion of the registration proceeds supports the LCRC Summer Youth Program as well as scholarships for high school cross country teams in Dona Ana County. A packet pick-up expo featuring vendors and sponsors is held prior to the race at the WIA building.
Awards and Recognition
Awards are presented to the top three overall male and female finishers in the 5K and 10K races, along with age group awards. The 1 Mile FunRun offers awards for the top three finishers in two categories: ages 1 to 14 and ages 15 and older. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
