Event overview
The 2026 9-11 Memorial race offers two distances on September 12 in Georgetown and at Fletcher’s Boathouse. Distances include:
- 5k
- Half marathon
Points from the event count toward the Year-Long 5k, Endurance, and Back of the Pack series, and toward the Summer Series. A virtual race option is available. Registration fees listed are: 5k $35 (rises to $40 after Aug 31) and Half $70 (rises to $75 after Aug 31). Prices increase by $5 on race morning. T-shirts are guaranteed to runners registered before Sept 2. The half marathon has a completion time limit of 3:15.
Course, services and logistics
Both courses run on the Chesapeake & Ohio Canal path. The route surface is a light gravel trail with minimal elevation change and both distances are out-and-back. The half starts and finishes in Georgetown near the Potomac Boat Club; the 5k starts and finishes at Fletcher’s Boathouse.
The event is chip timed and provides a finisher’s medal and a technical (Dri-fit) event shirt. Water stations: seven along the half at approximately miles 1.55, 3.8, 4.3, 6.55, 8.8, 9.3 and 11.55; one on the 5k at about mile 1.55. Some stations will offer Gatorade. Restroom options and packet pickup are available at the venue locations. There is no on-site race registration. Live results are posted on Athlinks and final results with series points are posted the Monday after the race. Awards are given to the top three overall men and women and to first and second in standard age groups. Back of the Pack times are listed as 12:00 for the half and 11:00 for the 5k; the BOTP is a series classification for slower average paces.
