Event Overview
This is the 12th annual LandShark Swim & Swim+Run, taking place at Lake Gardner in Amesbury, Massachusetts. The event draws approximately 200 participants. The swims occur in the calm, protected waters of the lake.
Available Distances
The event offers four distinct categories:
- 1/2 Mile Swim
- 1.2 Mile Swim
- 2.4 Mile Swim
- Swim + Run (a 1/2 mile swim followed by a 2 mile trail run)
Course Information
All swim courses are laid out as out-and-back routes. The 1.2-mile swim goes 0.6 miles out from Lake Gardner Beach to a turnaround buoy. Swimmers for the 2.4-mile distance complete that out-and-back course twice, with a two-hour cutoff time. For the Swim+Run, the transition area is at Lake Gardner Beach, and the run portion travels through the Lake Gardner Trail System; shoes are required as parts of the trail are rooty.
Participant Information
Participants must be at least 12 years old. Swimmers under 15 are not eligible for the 2.4-mile swim. Water safety is supported by kayakers, paddleboarders, and emergency boats. According to FINA Open Water Swim rules, the event may be shortened or canceled if the water temperature is below 16°C (60.8°F); wetsuits are optional at 14°C (57.2°F) or above.
Post-Event & Awards
Post-race snacks and bananas are provided, and a cold beer courtesy of a local brewery is available. Coffee is available for purchase. Awards are given to the top three male and female finishers in wetsuit and non-wetsuit categories for each swim distance, as well as for the top three male and female finishers in the Swim+Run. All swimmers receive a custom swim cap. Athletes registered by May 15 receive an event t-shirt. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
