Laich o' Moray 30 and 50 mile Challenge Walks
The Laich o' Moray events are two circular challenge walks covering 30 miles and 50 miles, with time restrictions of 14 hours and 24 hours respectively.
- 30 miles - 14 hour time limit
- 50 miles - 24 hour time limit
Both routes start and finish at Rafford Village Hall (grid ref NJ067556, W3W ///paper.dozen.blackouts) and share the first section of the route for about 16 miles to Roseisle. The route follows woodland to the Dava Way toward Forres, passes Dallas Dhu Distillery and local community woods, then goes by Sueno's Stone to Findhorn and along coastal paths to Roseisle and Lossiemouth. The 30 mile route turns south at Roseisle to the Heldon Hill ridge via Alves VH and rejoins the 50 mile route for the final miles.
From Lossiemouth the 50 mile route uses a disused railway and minor roads to Elgin, follows the River Lossie, crosses the A96, and continues through forestry to Miltonduff Village Hall and up to the Heldon Hill ridge. Both routes remain on the ridge to the Califer viewpoint before returning to Rafford.
The event is planned with tide times to allow beach sections in daylight. It is intended for experienced long distance walkers and runners; 50 mile participants should have recently completed walks over 25 miles. Entry is by SiEntries only, the combined events are limited to 100 places, and there are separate 2026 fees for members and non-members. An event information pack, OS Explorer map 423 reference, GPX files and route descriptions are provided to participants. Camping on the adjacent playing field is permitted with restrictions; toilets in the hall are available but there are no showers. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
