Laich o' Moray 30 and 50 Mile Challenge Walks
The Laich o' Moray events are two circular challenge routes based at Rafford Village Hall near Forres. The routes share the first section to Roseisle then diverge, with the 30 mile route returning via Heldon Hill and rejoining the 50 mile route for the final stretch. Time limits apply: 14 hours for the 30 mile challenge and 24 hours for the 50 mile challenge.
- 30 miles circular route with a 14 hour time limit
- 50 miles circular route with a 24 hour time limit
The route links woodland, long distance paths and coastal sections. Notable features on the route include the Dava Way, Dallas Dhu area, Sueno's Stone, beach and coastal paths to Roseisle and Lossiemouth, a disused railway line to Elgin, the River Lossie corridor, Quarrel Woods and the Heldon Hill ridge with the Califer viewpoint. Route materials are provided, including Ordnance Survey map coverage, downloadable GPX files and a route description when finalised. Dates are chosen in consideration of tide times so beach sections are walkable in daylight.
Booking is through SiEntries only, with entries opening 1 March 2026 and the combined events limited to 100 places. Fees differ for LDWA members and non-members and a marshal's walk is held earlier in August with no entry fee for marshals. Camping on the adjacent playing field is permitted with limited access to village hall toilets. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
