About the race
The Kinloss Running Festival takes place 29–30 Aug 2026 at Kinloss Barracks Training Area on the Moray coast in Scotland. The programme includes road races and a looped ultra event held within the barracks using runways, taxiways and perimeter roads. Distances - Back Yard Ultra - 4.1 mile (6.7 km) hourly loop until one runner remains - Ray Hughes Half Marathon - 13.1 miles, out and back on tarmac/concrete - 10K - 10 km loop on tarmac/concrete - 5K - 5 km loop on tarmac/concrete - 1K Fun Run - 1 km loop on taxiway next to the Race Village Road routes are entirely on tarmac or concrete and have negligible elevation (<20 m). The Back Yard Ultra includes a day out-and-back route that is about 80% off road (rough grass, gravel, some tarmac and sand) and a night loop that is road and runway only.
GPX files will be uploaded roughly two weeks before the event. Entry is via Crash Gate 1 and security checks apply; photographic ID is required for everyone aged 14 and over. BYU entrants must supply vehicle registration for access. There is a £5 charity parking donation payable on the day and organisers accept no liability for parked vehicles. Aid stations provide water on the Ray Hughes Half Marathon, 10K and 5K; BYU entrants are expected to be largely self-sufficient but a small communal aid station is available.
First aid facilities, marshals and signposting are provided. In-ear earphones are prohibited; bone conduction devices may be permitted with organiser approval. Canicross and pushchairs are not allowed on routes.
