Kinloss Running Festival 2026
Kinloss Running Festival takes place within Kinloss Barracks Training Area on the Moray coast. The event uses airfield runways, taxiways and perimeter roads as well as off road sections to offer a range of race formats over a weekend in late August.
Distances included:
- Back Yard Ultra - 4.1 mile loop run on the hour every hour until one runner remains
- Ray Hughes Half Marathon - 13.1 mile out and back on runway and perimeter road
- 10K - 10 km loop using runway and perimeter road
- 5K - 5 km loop using northern runway and taxiways
- 1K Fun Run - 1 km loop on a taxiway next to the Race Village
The Ray Hughes Half Marathon, 10K and 5K are AUKCM officially measured courses. Road routes are entirely on tarmac or concrete surfaces. The Back Yard Ultra includes a day loop that is mostly off road and a night loop that is entirely on road and runway. Elevation across the routes is minimal, generally under 20 m.
Routes are signposted and marshalled. Aid stations provide water on the Ray Hughes Half Marathon, 10K and 5K; Back Yard Ultra entrants are expected to be largely self sufficient with access to a small communal aid station at the Race Village. A first aid post and a mobile unit with AED will be available. There is a centralised parking area with a charity donation parking fee per vehicle. Security procedures apply for entry to the training area and photographic ID is required for those aged 14 and over. Canicross, pushchairs and buggies are not permitted on any route; run buggies and adapted race wheelchairs are permitted on road routes.
Prizes and medals are awarded for various categories in the road races. All finishers in the Ray Hughes Half Marathon, 10K and 5K receive finishers medals. Entrants in the 1K Fun Run receive a medal and a goodie bag. Official results will be published after the event. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
