Kinloss Running Festival
The Kinloss Running Festival takes place 29 Aug to 30 Aug 2026 within Kinloss Barracks Training Area on the Moray coast of Scotland. The event uses runways, taxiways and perimeter roads and offers a mix of road and off-road running routes. Elevation on all routes is minimal, generally under 20 m, and most road routes use tarmac or concrete surfaces. GPX files for all routes will be uploaded approximately two weeks before the event.
Distances:
- Back Yard Ultra: 4.1 mile loop run on the hour until one runner remains
- Ray Hughes Half Marathon: 13.1 miles on tarmac and concrete, out and back
- 10K: 10 km loop using runway, taxiways and perimeter road
- 5K: 5 km loop using runway and taxiways
- 1K Fun Run: 1 km loop on a taxiway next to the Race Village
Aid stations supply water on the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon; Back Yard Ultra entrants are expected to be largely self-sufficient but have access to a communal aid point in the Race Village. A first aid post and mobile unit with AED will be present at the Start / Finish area. Entry and parking are via Crash Gate 1; a £5 charity donation parking fee applies per vehicle and the 1K Fun Run has a £2 entry on the day. Security measures include a nominal roll and photographic ID requirements for those aged 14 and over.
Certain equipment and behaviours are restricted: in-ear earphones, canicross, pushchairs and baby prams are not permitted on any route. Run buggies and adapted race wheelchairs are permitted on road routes. All finishers in the Ray Hughes Half Marathon, 10K and 5K receive finishers medals; 1K entrants receive a medal and goodie bag.
