Kinloss Running Festival : 29 to 30 Aug 2026
Kinloss Running Festival is held within Kinloss Barracks Training Area on the Moray coast in Scotland. The event uses runways, taxiways and perimeter roads around the airfield, and includes road and off-road race formats with minimal elevation across all routes.
Distances and formats include:
- 1K Fun Run : 1 km loop on a taxiway next to the Race Village.
- 5K : 5 km loop on runway and taxiways, tarmac/concrete surface.
- 10K : 10 km loop on runway, taxiways and perimeter road, tarmac/concrete surface.
- Ray Hughes Half Marathon : 13.1 mile out and back on runway, taxiways and perimeter road.
- Back Yard Ultra : 4.1 mile (6.7 km) loop run on the hour, every hour until one runner remains.
Route notes: the 1K, 5K, 10K and Half Marathon are on even, well maintained tarmac or concrete surfaces; elevation is negligible (under 20 m). The Back Yard Ultra day loop is about 80% off road with grass, gravel trail, some tarmac and sand. The BYU night loop is entirely on road and runway.
Practical information: entry is via Crash Gate 1 with security checks; photographic ID is required for people aged 14 and over. BYU entrants supply vehicle registration for security. A central parking area is provided with a £5 charity donation payable in cash. Aid stations supply water on the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon; BYU entrants are expected to be largely self sufficient but have access to a communal aid point. First aid provision and an AED are available at the Race Village. Canicross, pushchairs and buggies are not permitted on routes; run buggies and adapted race wheelchairs are allowed on road routes. Finishers medals and race prizes are awarded for the 5K, 10K and Half Marathon; BYU finishers and DNF participants receive mementos. GPX files will be published about two weeks before the event. Proceeds after event costs will be split between SSAFA Inverness-shire & Western Isles and ABF The Soldier's Charity. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
