KU Vets Day 5K
The KU Vets Day 5K is a community running event held on November 15 in Lawrence, Kansas, that honors the service and sacrifice of veterans and recognizes the role of military‑affiliated students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members at the University of Kansas.
This edition coincides with the 40th anniversary of the University of Kansas Vietnam War Memorial, dedicated in 1986 as the first on-campus Vietnam memorial in the United States, and the event reflects the university's ongoing commitment to remembering those who served.
The course begins and ends at the Jayhawk Welcome Center, 1266 Oread Avenue. The event includes both an in person race and a virtual option, with registration opening July 7, 2026. In person registration closes October 24, 2026; virtual registration closes November 10, 2026. Registration fees are $30 for the in person 5K and $40 for the virtual 5K.
Proceeds from the event support veteran-focused programs and initiatives that strengthen the military‑affiliated community at KU. The event is presented by the KU Veterans Alumni Network and the KU Alumni and supports veteran programs provided by the KU Veterans Alumni Network and KU Student Veterans of America.
