KU Vets Day 5K
The KU Vets Day 5K is an annual community run held at the Jayhawk Welcome Center in Lawrence, Kansas. The event honors the service and sacrifice of veterans and acknowledges the role of military-affiliated students, alumni, faculty, staff, and community members connected with the University of Kansas.
This edition commemorates the 40th anniversary of the University of Kansas Vietnam War Memorial, dedicated in 1986 as the first on-campus Vietnam memorial in the United States. The memorial is highlighted as a lasting tribute to Jayhawks who served and sacrificed during the Vietnam War.
The event offers both in person and virtual participation options and follows a 3.1 mile distance for each option.
- In person 5K: 3.1 Miles
- Virtual 5K: 3.1 Miles
Registration opens July 7, 2026. Registration for the in person 5K closes October 24, 2026; registration for the virtual 5K closes November 10, 2026. Registration fees are listed as $30.00 for the in person 5K and $40.00 for the virtual 5K.
Proceeds from the event support veteran-focused programs and initiatives that strengthen the military-affiliated community at KU. The event is presented by the KU Veterans Alumni Network and the KU Alumni Association and supports veteran programs provided by KU Veterans Alumni Network and KU Student Veterans of America.
