Cactus Roulette Endurance Event : Clinton Lake State Park, Lawrence, KS
Cactus Roulette is a duration trail race organized by the Lawrence Trail Hawks with four time options: 24 hour, 12 hour Owl, 12 hour Lark, and 6 hour. The event is based at Coneflower Campground at Clinton Lake State Park. Each loop begins and ends at base camp.
Before each loop, runners spin a roulette wheel that determines which of three loops they will run next. The three loops are run counter-clockwise, color-coded to match the wheel, and use separate starting mats. Live results are posted on monitors at base camp.
Course loops:
- SWIM BEACH (Blue): 3.6 miles, technical trail, 253 ft elevation
- CACTUS RIDGE (Green): 2.6 miles, technical trail, 239 ft elevation
- BUNKER HILL (Red): 1.9 miles, cross-country field conditions, 150 ft elevation
Race amenities include food, water, porta potties, heaters, access to personal drop bags, and space for personal tents near base camp with priority for 24 hour racers. Each time block is capped at 50 runners. Dogs are not allowed. Every starter receives a completion award. Awards are given by gender category for each time option; additional awards and items include a cash prize for the top 24 hour finisher meeting a mileage threshold, custom belt buckles for 24 hour runners reaching 100 miles, time-block SWAG, and event photos provided by Mile 90.
If trails are unsafe, an alternate course may be used pending approvals. In the event of cancellation or postponement for reasons beyond the organizers control, refunds will not be made; race packets may be provided later or mailed but are not guaranteed.
