Cactus Roulette Endurance Event
Cactus Roulette is a duration trail race hosted by the Lawrence Trail Hawks at Coneflower Campground in Clinton Lake State Park, Lawrence, Kansas. The event is offered in four time options: 24 hour, 12 hour Owl, 12 hour Lark, and a 6 hour block. Runners spin a roulette wheel before each loop to determine which loop they will run next; each loop begins and ends at base camp and is run counter-clockwise.
Three loops are used and are color coded to match the roulette wheel:
- SWIM BEACH (Blue), 3.6 miles, 253 ft, technical trail
- CACTUS RIDGE (Green), 2.6 miles, 239 ft, technical trail
- BUNKER HILL (Red), 1.9 miles, 150 ft, cross-country field with two steep climbs
Base camp provides food, water, porta potties, heaters, access to personal drop bags, and live result monitors. Each loop has its own starting mat for lap counting. Time blocks are capped at 50 runners. Pacers are permitted only for the 24 hour time option. Dogs are not allowed. Vehicles must display a Clinton State Park parking permit.
Awards and gear include a completion award for every starter, category awards by time block for male, female, and nonbinary, a conditional cash prize for the top 24 hour finisher, custom belt buckles for 24 hour runners who reach 100 miles, time block SWAG, and a purchasable Cactus Roulette Blanket.
