Cactus Roulette Endurance Event
Cactus Roulette is a duration trail race hosted by the Lawrence Trail Hawks at Coneflower Campground, Clinton Lake State Park, Lawrence, Kansas. The event spans January 23–24, 2027 and offers four time options: 24-hour, 12-hour Owl, 12-hour Lark, and 6-hour.
Before each loop, runners spin a roulette wheel to determine which loop they will run next. All loops begin and end at base camp and are run counter-clockwise. Each loop is color-coded to match the roulette wheel and has its own starting mat. Live results will be posted on monitors at base camp.
Course loops:
- SWIM BEACH (Blue), technical trail, 3.6 miles, 253 ft elevation
- CACTUS RIDGE (Green), technical trail, 2.6 miles, 239 ft elevation
- BUNKER HILL (Red), cross-country field, 1.9 miles, 150 ft elevation
Base camp amenities include food, water, porta potties, heaters, access to personal drop bags, and space for personal tents (priority to 24-hour racers). Every starter receives a completion award. Awards are given by male, female, and nonbinary categories for each time option. First place 24-hour finishers receive a $250 cash award if they complete at least 100 miles; 24-hour runners who reach 100+ miles receive custom belt buckles mailed after the race. SWAG is provided per time block and is guaranteed for registrations prior to January 9, 2027. Photos are provided by Mile 90. A Cactus Roulette Blanket is available for purchase during registration.
Rules note that 24-hour runners may have one pacer at a time while 6- and 12-hour runners may not. Linked teams may spin and run together under specified rules and cannot exceed five racers. Each time block is capped at 50 runners. The race is inside Clinton State Park and vehicles must display the required parking permit. If trails are unsafe, an alternate course may be used; in certain cancellations refunds will not be made but race packets may be provided or mailed.
