Event Details

The Knock Ma running event takes place in County Galway. The date is Wednesday, 12th August 2026.

Course Information

There are two distances. The main course is 9.60 km long with a 359 m climb. There is also a 4.00 km short course. The event difficulty is rated 5, indicating easy terrain. The route is fully marked. The use of GPS devices is not allowed.

Mandatory Kit

All runners must bring Level B mandatory kit to the race. The required items are:

  • Waterproof jacket
  • Hat or buff
  • Gloves
  • Whistle
  • Charged mobile phone with an emergency number stored
  • Foil blanket, bivvy bag, or equivalent

Runners must have the means to carry all kit. The Race Director will finalise which items must be carried on the day based on conditions. Random kit checks may be conducted, and failure to have required items may lead to denied entry or disqualification.

Logistics

The start, finish, meeting point, and registration are all at the Knockma hill car park. Registration opens at 09:00 and closes at 09:50. The race time is 19:30. There is an early start for the short course at 09:30. Carpooling or cycling to the event is encouraged. Participants are asked to park considerately as the car park is public and often busy. The event is part of the Galway League.

Participation

The entry limit is 250 participants. Entry opens on Monday, 10th August 2026 at 21:00 and closes on race day at 12:00. Entry costs €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. A junior event over 4 km starts at 09:35. The event is organized by volunteers. Participants are encouraged to volunteer, with a suggestion to volunteer at least once for every ten events run.
