About the race
Knock Ma is a mountain running event organised by the Irish Mountain Running Association at Knockma car park in County Galway. The main route covers about 11.51 km with approximately 359 m of ascent. A short junior course of 4.00 km is also offered.
The route is fully marked and GPS devices are not permitted. The event is part of the Galway League and uses Mandatory Kit Level B (standard), which requires runners to carry a waterproof jacket, hat or buff, gloves, whistle, a charged mobile phone with the emergency number stored, and a foil blanket or bivvy bag. Runners should also have a way to carry the kit during the race. Random kit checks may be carried out and lack of required items can result in denied entry or disqualification.
Entry fees are €7 for seniors and €5 for over 65s and under 18s. Entries close on Wednesday 12th August 2026 at 12:00 and places are limited; at the time of this listing there are 11 places filled out of 250. Registration and sign-in procedures are managed on the day at the meeting point in Knockma car park. Car parking is available in Belclare Village and carpooling or cycling is encouraged. Vouchers will be emailed to winners and refreshments will be available afterwards in Canavan's Pub in Belclare Village. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
