Knickerbocker Canyon Trail Run : March 28, 2026
The Knickerbocker Canyon Trail Run in Auburn and Cool, California is an Inside Trail Racing event offering trail races of multiple distances on the Western States trail and adjacent single-track along the American River canyon. Distances include 35K, Half Marathon, 10K, and 5K. The Half Marathon and 35K routes cross No Hands Bridge and ascend the K2 training hill; the longer course also returns to the river and climbs a series of switchbacks called Dam Hill. The event is chip timed with disposable chips attached to the back of each bib.
Course and logistics
- 35K - 20.8 miles, 4,800 ft elevation gain
- Half Marathon - 13.3 miles, 3,000 ft elevation gain
- 10K - 6.1 miles, 1,150 ft elevation gain
- 5K - 3.5 miles, 650 ft elevation gain
The event is limited to 400 runners across all distances. Parking is free at American River Overlook Park and nearby streets. The race is a cupless event; runners must carry their own bottle or reusable cup (HydraPak cups available for purchase on site). Aid stations provide a range of foods and drinks such as gels, trail mix, PB&J sandwiches, water, and Skratch Labs hydration; runners are encouraged to carry at least one 20 oz bottle. Entry fees are non-refundable; a 50% credit toward a future Inside Trail Racing event is available if cancellation occurs at least three weeks before the race.
