12th Kirroughtree Hillbilly MTBDuathlon
The Kirroughtree Hillbilly MTBDuathlon takes place at the Kirroughtree Visitor Centre in Newton Stewart, located within the Galloway Forest Park in South West Scotland. This multi-sport event offers participants a combination of trail running and mountain biking through forest environments.
The event features two distinct distance options for participants:
- Long Course: A 10 km run followed by an 18 km mountain bike ride.
- Short Course: A 5 km run followed by a 9.36 km mountain bike ride.
The long course run utilizes walkers' paths and forest roads, while the mountain bike segment follows the Seven Stanes Red route, known as The Twister. The short course mountain bike portion consists of a blue-graded route primarily using fire roads and four blue-graded bike trails.
Participation is open to individuals aged 16 and older. Entrants can compete as solo participants or in teams of two, where one person completes the run and the other handles the cycling leg. Categories are available for various age groups ranging from under 21 to over 60. E-bikes are permitted in specific pairs categories provided they comply with UK EAPC law, featuring a maximum power output of 250 watts and a speed limit of 15.5 mph.
The start, transition, and finish lines are all located at the Kirroughtree Visitor Centre. All routes are marked with signage and supported by marshals. The event uses chip timing to provide split times for both the run and the bike segments. A parking fee is required for the event field.
