The Keweenaw Ultramarathon is a fully supported trail event held at the Michigan Technological University Tech Trails near Sharon Avenue across from Sherman Field in Houghton, Michigan.
- 50K
- 25k
The course is a single loop of the Tech Trails. 25k participants complete one loop and 50k participants complete two loops. 50k runners must carry a headlamp for the early, dark portion of the race. The route is marked with neon flags on the right side; flags on the left indicate the wrong direction. Closed trails are marked with caution tape.
Aid stations are located at approximately miles 4.2, 11.8, 15.6, 19.8, and 27.4. Stations offer water, drink mix, and typical ultra foods. All athletes must check in at every aid station by providing their bib number to a volunteer. Drop bags can be stored in the community room, under the tent, or in vehicles and are accessible during the race after checking in at the trailhead aid station.
Pacers are not allowed. Runners will cross Pilgrim Road multiple times with a volunteer assisting crossings but not stopping traffic. Timing is managed through UltraSignup and there is no live tracking. Awards go to the top athlete for each distance. Time limits are enforced with an eight hour cutoff for the 50K and a seven hour cutoff for the 25k. Keweenaw Ultra Marathon Club shirts are sold on race day for twenty dollars.
