Keweenaw Ultramarathon
The Keweenaw Ultramarathon is held on the Michigan Technological University Tech Trails in Houghton, Michigan. The event offers two distances run on the same looped course.
- 50K
- 25k
The 25k is one loop of the course and the 50k is two loops. The 50k requires a headlamp for the first 1.5 hours. The route is marked with neon flags on the right side; flags on the left indicate the wrong direction. Closed trails at intersections are marked with caution tape.
There are aid stations at the main trailhead and at Nara. Aid station encounters occur at miles 4.2 (6.8 km), 11.8 (19 km), 15.6 (25.1 km), 19.8 (31.9 km), and 27.4 (44.1 km). Aid stations provide water, drink mix, and common ultra foods. All participants must check in at every aid station by giving their bib number. Drop bags can be left in the community room (wax building), under the tent, or in cars and may be accessed after checking in at the trailhead.
Pacers are not allowed. Runners will cross Pilgrim Road multiple times and will receive assistance at crossings, but volunteers will not stop road traffic. Races are timed through UltraSignup with no live tracking. The 50k has an 8 hour cut off and the 25k has a 7 hour cut off. Parking is available at the main trailhead with overflow parking in a nearby field and additional parking at Nara. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
