About the race

Kendra's Race is an annual event held at the University of California, Santa Barbara that includes sprint triathlon categories and a 5k fun run. The event was renamed in 2006 in memory of a teammate, and a portion of entry fees is donated to a memorial fund.

Distances included:

  • 5k Fun Run - 3.1 Miles
  • Sprint Triathlon - 15 Miles (Collegiate, Open, Relay)

The triathlon swim starts at Campus Point and follows a 200 m out, 400 m along, and 200 m back pattern to shore. Athletes climb wooden steps to the transition area on Anacapa Lawn. The bike leg is two laps of a circuit that includes technical bike path sections and more open roads on Los Carneros, Hollister, Fairview and Lagoon Road, with a return onto campus and the Obern Bike Path before beginning lap two and returning to transition two after the second lap. The run is a single rolling loop of approximately 5k around the UCSB lagoon on paved and hard packed trails. The route passes an aid station near the lagoon and finishes in Lot 6.

Event logistics include a Saturday packet pickup at Goleta Trek, race day packet pickup and transition area at Anacapa Lawn, and an award ceremony after the morning events. Participants should bring a valid photo ID and their USAT membership number if applicable. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
