K9 Run - Canicross Mile
K9 Run - Canicross Mile is a one mile time trial for one person and one dog at Deer Lake Park in Burnaby, BC on November 15, 2026. Teams choose between competitive and recreational categories and each entry covers one person with one dog.
The competitive category requires canicross equipment: a pulling harness, a bungee line, and a hands free belt. Competitive teams are timed, eligible for overall placement and prizes, and receive sponsor swag. The recreational category allows a suitable back clip harness, is also timed but does not produce rankings; sponsor swag is provided for recreational entries as well. Fees are listed for entries with a registration window shown as Oct 8 to Nov 12.
Starts are individual and staggered at approximately 15 second intervals based on each team’s estimated finishing time; participants are asked to provide a realistic estimate when registering. Free parking is available at Deer Lake Park and the start point is about 1 km from the parking area.
Safety and protocol rules include: no collar leashes for running, no retractable leashes, dogs must remain leashed before, during, and after the run, and dogs should be current on vaccinations as proof may be requested. The course is on a shared public trail; participants must keep dogs close, stay in single file except when passing, and follow simple passing communication.
