Event overview
The K9 Candy Cane 5K Fun Run and Walk takes place on Sunday, December 7, 2025, at the Renton Community Center campus in Renton, WA (1719 SE Maple Valley Hwy). The event features a 5K out-and-back course that follows the paved Cedar River Trail and returns to the community center. The event accommodates runners, walkers and participants with dogs. Chip timing is provided by Negative Split. There is an annual pet food drive; participants may bring canned or bagged pet food for donation.
Registration, apparel and logistics
Registration is divided into three windows with different fees by age group:
- Early Bird (Aug 28 to Nov 1): Ages 4-17 $20; Ages 18+ $30. Guarantees a hooded sweatshirt.
- Standard (Nov 2 to Nov 26): Ages 4-17 $30; Ages 18+ $40. Guarantees a hooded sweatshirt.
- Last Chance (Nov 26 to Dec 6): Ages 4-17 $30; Ages 18+ $40. Not eligible for a hooded sweatshirt.
Pre-registered participants may pick up their race bib and sweatshirt at the Renton Community Center the day before the event; on-site pickup is also available on race morning. Race bibs serve as timing chips and should be worn outside clothing facing forward.
Course rules and awards
Strollers are allowed. Timing ends 45 minutes after the start; participants who do not wish to be timed should avoid the timing chute. Walkers are asked to stay to the right of the course. Dog rules include a maximum of two dogs per person, current vaccinations, no dogs under six months, leashes no longer than 6 feet, no female dogs in heat, and owner responsibility for waste removal and safety. Awards are given to the top three finishers overall in specified age and gender categories, including a non-binary adult category and youth category.
