K5K - A Run for Kendra
The k5k is an annual run/walk event held to honor and celebrate the life of Kendra R. Atherton and to raise money for a scholarship fund that supports college students who have lost a parent to cancer and who display the qualities noted by the organizers. By the time of this edition the event has awarded over $155,000 in scholarships to qualifying students.
The event date is Saturday, November 21, 2026. Activities are offered in person at the 1st Street Jetty on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk and as a virtual 5K, with virtual results accepted during the month of November. The event includes an in-person k5k Run/Walk and a k5k Virtual option; both are 5K distances.
Registration follows tiered pricing: youth 12 and under $20 (increases to $25 on November 1), students 13–24 $30 (increases to $35 on November 1), and adults 25+ $35 (increases to $40 on November 1). Registration opens June 26 and closes October 31.
Packet pick-up is available at Running Etc., 1940 Laskin Rd UNIT 302, Virginia Beach, VA 23454. An after party is listed at The Shack, 712 Atlantic Ave, Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
