Annual Memorial Run in Virginia Beach
The K5K - A Run for Kendra is an annual event held in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The 14th edition of this event takes place on the Virginia Beach Boardwalk, with the start and finish area located at the 1st Street Jetty. The event serves to honor Kendra R. Atherton and supports a scholarship fund for college students who have lost a parent to cancer. To date, the initiative has awarded more than $155,000 in scholarships.
Participants have the following distance options:
- 5K Run/Walk (In-person)
- 5K Virtual
The in-person course follows the coastline along the boardwalk. For those unable to attend at the venue, a virtual participation option allows runners and walkers to complete the distance from any location. Virtual results may be posted at any time throughout the month of November.
The event is open to participants of all ages. Pets are also permitted to join the run, and attendees are encouraged to dress them in pink. An after-party is held at The Shack on Atlantic Avenue following the conclusion of the activities. Packet pick-up is organized at a local running store in Virginia Beach on the day before the event.
