The course passes by the West River and ponds. The park is described as peaceful and scenic, with a history dating to its 1910 design by Frederick Law Olmsted Jr. The 5K course has no car traffic. Cones, signs, and volunteers will be on the course.

The event is dedicated to celebrating the life of Julia Rusinek, a Yale student devoted to helping underprivileged children. Proceeds benefit the Julia Rusinek Memorial Fund, which supports children's programming focused on leadership, literature, writing, and athletics. All donations from the event go directly to the charity partner, LEAP (Leadership, Education & Athletics in Partnership, Inc.), a New Haven-based nonprofit that empowers underserved youth.
