Event Overview
JP's Backyard Ultra/Hike, The Final Edition is an ultramarathon and hike event taking place at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, California. This is the fourth and final year for this grassroots event. The event is a fundraiser for the Pheo Para Alliance, a nonprofit organization.
Course Details
The event features a 3.3 mile loop course within Skyline Wilderness Park. Each loop has approximately 550 feet of elevation gain. The terrain includes a mix of steep rocky sections and shaded paths.
Event Format
Participants can choose to complete between 1 and 10 loops. All runners and hikers start together at the beginning of each hour. The direction of travel alternates each hour, with clockwise loops on even hours and counterclockwise loops on odd hours. Completing 10 loops results in a 33.3 mile distance.
Logistics and Amenities
An aid station at the main camp provides various caloric options and drinks, with water available at two other points on the course. Lunch is provided for participants and volunteers. The event is cupless; participants must bring their own water bottle or hydration pack.
Awards include medals for all registered participants. Additional awards, including wine (with a non-alcoholic option) and trophies, are given to top finishers in various categories based on loop counts and cumulative times. There is also a raffle and a silent wine auction, with proceeds benefiting the Pheo Para Alliance.
Registration and Donations
Registration for the event is free. A suggested starting donation of $30 is encouraged, with 100% of that donation going directly to the Pheo Para Alliance. A separate processing fee applies per transaction.
Additional Information
Free parking is available for registered participants at a designated Westside parking lot, not the main park lot. Childcare is provided by volunteers from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM. Camping is available nearby on the Friday and Saturday nights through a reservation with the park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
