JP's Backyard Ultra/Hike, The Final Edition
JP's Backyard Ultra & Hike is a community ultramarathon and hike held at Skyline Wilderness Park in Napa, CA. The event benefits the Pheo Para Alliance, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit that supports research, education, and advocacy for pheochromocytoma and paraganglioma.
The course is a 3.3 mile loop with more than 550 feet of climbing and a mix of terrain including steep rocky sections and shaded paths. Participants may complete anywhere from one to ten loops. Each hour all participants begin a new loop together; loop direction alternates between clockwise and counterclockwise on successive hours so everyone restarts at the same time regardless of individual pace.
Support at the main camp includes a range of caloric options and drinks; water is also available at a bridge around mile 2.3 on the loop. The event is cupless so participants should provide their own water bottle or hydration pack. Food and lunch are provided for those on site. Medals are given to all registered participants and additional awards, trophies, and wine are distributed for top finishers across multiple loop categories. Raffle prizes and a silent wine auction raise funds for the beneficiary charity.
Free parking is provided for registered participants at a designated Westside lot and campsite reservations are available through Skyline Park. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
