Call of the Wild Half Marathon and 5 Mile
The Call of the Wild Half Marathon and 5 Mile is an inaugural trail running event held at Jack London State Historic Park in Glen Ellen, California. The course takes participants through the heart of Beauty Ranch, a property developed by novelist Jack London in the early 20th century. The route starts and finishes at the picnic area near the London Cottage, passing historic concrete silos and offering views of local vineyards.
Participants follow trails into the hillsides of Sonoma Mountain, characterized by a landscape of grassy meadows and forests containing madrone, Douglas fir, black oak, buckeye, and bigleaf maple. The event offers two distances:
- Half Marathon
- 5 Mile
The courses are marked with orange ribbons, and aid stations are positioned at mile 2.5 for the 5 Mile event and at miles 3 and 9.6 for the Half Marathon. A course cut-off time of 3.5 hours is in place for both distances. Due to narrow trails and steep drop-offs, the use of headphones or audio devices is prohibited to ensure safe passing.
Registered runners receive a T-shirt, and finishers of the Half Marathon are awarded a medal. Top finishers in various age groups are eligible for personalized award ribbons. Parking is available within the state park for a fee, though space is limited. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
