Joe LaRocco 5K and 1K Elementary School Run : Salem, VA
The Joe LaRocco 5K and Elementary School 1K are part of the Knights Crossing Cross Country Invitational hosted by Cave Spring High School and take place at Green Hill Park in Salem, VA. The courses are flat and run entirely on grass and gravel. The meet includes multiple races across divisions and maintains course records and historical team results.
The event program includes two primary distances:
- 5K open race for coaches, parents, alumni and the general public
- 1K for elementary-age students (grades 1–5)
Awards are presented to the top three male and female overall finishers, top male and female masters (40+), and fastest coaches by gender. Teams may compete using cross country scoring; teams require five or more runners to be scored for team awards. Elementary participants receive a race T-shirt at packet pick-up and a finishers medal.
On-site services and logistics: basic concessions will be available behind the start area, medical coverage will be provided by the high school athletic trainer and the local rescue squad, and packet pick-up is available the morning of the event at Green Hill Park. The races are organized within the larger Knights Crossing invitational schedule and follow applicable scholastic competition policies.
