Joe LaRocco 5K and Elementary School 1K
The event is part of the Knights Crossing Cross Country Invitational hosted by Cave Spring High School at Green Hill Park in Salem, VA. The courses are flat and run entirely on grass and gravel.
Two distances are offered:
- 5K Open race for coaches, parents, alumni, and the general public.
- 1K Elementary school race for students in grades 1 through 5.
The 5K includes awards for the top three male and female overall finishers, top male and female masters (age 40+), and fastest coach awards for male and female coaches. Teams may score using cross country scoring; a team requires five or more runners to be scored and be eligible for team awards. Paid 5K registrants receive a Joe LaRocco 5K T-shirt while supplies last.
Elementary 1K participants receive a Knights Crossing T-shirt at packet pick-up and a medal at the finish. Recorded times on the current 5K course include 15:18.44 for men (2022) and 18:09.70 for women (2026); masters and coach category times are also recorded for the course.
Basic concessions will be available near the start area. Emergency medical coverage is provided by the Cave Spring High School athletic trainer and the Cave Spring Rescue Squad. Packet pick-up is located at Green Hill Park near the concessions and is marked with a large blue swooper flag. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
