Joe LaRocco 5K and Elementary School 1K Run
The event takes place on 09/11/2027 at Green Hill Park in Salem, VA (2501 Green Hill Park Rd, 24153). It is part of the Knights Crossing Cross Country Invitational and includes separate open and elementary races.
Distances:
- 5K open race; coaches, parents, alumni and the general public; fee $15
- 1K elementary race for first through fifth grade students; fee $7
The course is flat and runs entirely on grass and gravel surfaces. The 5K is open to non-school participants while athletes attending the Invitational with their middle or high school team are expected to compete in their appropriate division later in the day. Home-schooled athletes must enter the separate open race rather than competing against public or private Virginia schools.
Awards are given to Top 3 male and female overall finishers and to Top male and female masters (40+). A fastest coach award is presented for male and female coaches. Teams may score using cross country rules; teams require five or more runners to be scored and eligible for team awards.
Paid registrants receive a Joe LaRocco 5K T-shirt while supplies last. Elementary participants receive a Knights Crossing T-shirt at packet pick-up and a finishers medal. Basic concessions will be available and emergency medical support will be provided by the high school athletic trainer and the local rescue squad. Packet pick-up is available the morning of the event at Green Hill Park near the concessions and marked with a large blue swooper flag. Registration opens 09/13/2026 and closes 09/04/2027.
