Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival
The Jim Thorpe Area Running Festival spans two days in Jim Thorpe, Pennsylvania and features multiple race options on rail-trail terrain through Lehigh Gorge State Park. The event offers the following distances:
- 26.2 Miles full marathon (point-to-point, Boston qualifying)
- 13.1 Miles half marathon
- 7 Miles 7-miler
- 39.3 Miles Super Two-Fer (half and full)
The full marathon follows wide, hard-packed rail-trails with a steady slight downgrade of about 0.5 to 1 percent for much of the course and a net downhill of approximately 700 feet. A scenic train ride is available to reach the starting line for some race options; the 7-miler requires the train to reach its remote start. A non-train marathon option includes parking at a lot with shuttle service to the start.
On-course support includes scheduled water and UCAN hydration or fuel stations at set mile markers for the half and full marathons. Portable toilets are provided at start/finish areas and at specific miles on each course. The trail has limited cell coverage; course monitors and bikers patrol sections of the marathon course and can alert medical teams if needed.
Additional event details include packet pickup windows before race day, event awards by overall, masters, and age group categories, event shirts and unique finisher medals, limited spectator train tickets, and charitable partner contributions.
