Chocorua Mountain Race
The Chocorua Mountain Race is a 23K mountain running event in Tamworth, New Hampshire, that starts and finishes from Scott Road and includes roughly 4,800 feet of cumulative climbing. The course begins on a fast, flat section through a field before reaching singletrack at the Hammond Trailhead and ascending 2.8 miles with about 1,900 feet of gain to the Liberty Trail junction. Runners then descend more than 1,600 feet in 2.5 miles to an on-course aid station.
Following the aid station, the route continues on rolling Forest Service singletrack to the Brook Trail and makes a loop up and over the 3,478 foot summit of Mount Chocorua. The trails on the summit and approaches contain rocks, roots, boulders, steep ledges, and stream and brook crossings with cold mountain water. After descending the steep ledges, the course returns via the Liberty and Hammond Trails for the final 2.8 mile descent to the finish area.
The race is part of the White Mountain Endurance Cup, a series of four sub-ultra distance courses. Completing at least three of the four events earns an official cup finisher medal in person after the third race. Series awards include top-three podium prize packs and King and Queen titles based on series points.
Mandatory gear required on race day includes 1 liter of fluids, 400 calories of food, a windbreaker or rain shell, and a space blanket or emergency foil blanket. The event is cupless; participants must carry their own hydration system as aid stations will not provide disposable cups. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
