Jersey City Hillers Course Challenge
The Jersey City Hillers "Fatass" Course Challenge is a free community running event featuring two distinct distances. Participants can choose between the following options:
- Half Marathon Course Challenge (13.1 miles)
- Marathon Course Challenge (26.2 miles)
The routes are designed to be physically demanding, with a primary focus on elevation and urban terrain. The 13.1 mile course involves 1,137 feet of elevation gain and includes steep hills. The 26.2 mile course includes 2,701 feet of elevation gain, traversing areas such as the Weehawken Cliffs and James Braddock Park. Both routes offer views of the Manhattan skyline and the Jersey City Bear Mural.
These courses are not USATF certified and utilize public roads. Participants must follow all traffic signals and signs throughout the run. Detailed turn-by-turn instructions and digital maps are provided for navigation, as the routes contain numerous turns. Total elapsed time, including stops for traffic lights, is used to determine official finishing times.
To be eligible for placement and a medal, participants must submit digital proof of their run, such as a map and data from a tracking service. For those who do not require placement, a photo or screenshot of a timing device is accepted to record a finish time. A signed waiver is required for all participants.
Convenience stores and gas stations are located along the route for self-supported hydration and nutrition. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
