Event Overview
The Jamestown Rhode Races take place on Conanicut Island in Rhode Island. The event features a half marathon distance that explores the island's coastline and interior landscapes. The race has a capacity limit of 425 participants and operates with a course time limit of 3.5 hours.
Course Details
The route begins at Fort Getty and circles nearly the entire island. Participants pass several local landmarks and natural features, including:
- Half Marathon: 13.1 miles including views of Narragansett Bay and the Newport Pell Bridge.
- Virtual Half Marathon: 13.1 miles to be completed independently between September 1 and October 1.
The course passes through the village of Jamestown, which contains small shops and restaurants, and continues along the eastern side of the island. The path leads through residential neighborhoods and past Watson Farm, windmills, and estuaries. The terrain consists primarily of winding paved roads, though there is one unpaved section before the second mile and a sustained incline between miles 9 and 10.
Participation Information
The event is held rain or shine. In the case of severe weather that creates unsafe conditions for participants, the organizers may cancel the event. For the virtual option, participants record their distance via GPS and receive a medal by mail upon submission of their results. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
