Jamestown Rhode Race
The Jamestown Rhode Race is a half marathon held on Conanicut Island in Jamestown, Rhode Island. The course looks out over Narragansett Bay and the Newport Pell Bridge and both starts and finishes at Fort Getty. The route passes Mackeral Cove, the village of Jamestown, and historic Watson Farm.
The course circumvents nearly the entire island and follows winding roads, residential neighborhoods, estuaries and agricultural areas. Runners encounter one short unpaved section before mile 2 and a long incline around miles 9 and 10. Aid stations and medical support are available along the route; some stations offer energy gels, electrolyte drink and bananas. Port a potties are located at all aid stations. The official course limit for the half marathon is 3.5 hours. Pace groups have been eliminated for this event.
Logistics note that parking is provided at Fort Getty and that there can be delays entering and exiting the area; access to Fort Getty parking is restricted to registered runners and their vehicles. Packet pick up occurs in the days before the race in Providence and on site on race day. Post race activities take place along the water and include music. The Jamestown Rhode Races event is R.I. Department of Environmental Management Green Certified. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
