Jackrabbit Classic Trail Runs
The Jackrabbit Classic is an annual trail running event held at Franklin Mountains State Park in the Tom Mays Unit. The race takes place on technical trails with steep climbs and descents, situated at altitudes ranging from 4,200 to 5,100 feet. All participants are required to finish the distance for which they originally registered.
The event offers three distinct trail distances:
- 4.5 Miles
- 8 Miles
- 12 Miles
The course layout features a significant ascent known as the Big Bertha Hill, which all runners reach between the 3.5 and 4.5-mile markers. Fully stocked aid stations including food and beverages are positioned at the 2, 4.5, 8, and 12-mile points. Additional water stations are located throughout the course.
Participants must complete their chosen distance within a four-hour time limit. All runners are required to check in with officials before starting. Packet pick-up and late registration are conducted exclusively on the day before the race at a local retail location; there is no registration or packet collection available on the morning of the event. Runners must display their race number to gain entry to the state park.
Awards include technical T-shirts for all participants. Age group awards and overall top three finishes are recognized for the shorter distances, while the 12-mile race includes finisher medals for all who complete the course. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
