Lets Motor along the Towpath - Rodley
Its Grim Up North Running stages a series of canal-side trail races that start from The Cricket Club, Canal Bank Sports Ground, Moss Bridge Road, Rodley, Leeds LS13 1RL. The route follows the Leeds and Liverpool Canal and is an out-and-back course on an even towpath.
The underfoot is described as good trail and the course is largely flat apart from canal locks. Feed and drink stations are provided approximately every three miles; the event aims to be cup-less so runners are advised to bring a reusable cup or bottle. The course is marshalled and signed, and toilets are available at the start. Finishers receive a bespoke medal and assorted treats.
Distances offered include:
- 10k
- 10 miles
- Half marathon
- 20 miler
- Marathon
- Ultra marathon
The races are licensed by the Trail Running Association. Downloadable GPX files are available for navigation because not every junction will have a marshal. Large over-ear headphones are discouraged; bone conduction or one-ear in-ear use is preferred and there may be unmarshalled road crossings. There is no dedicated parking at the registration area; on-road parking is available around Rodley and in the town centre, and Rodley is served by buses from Leeds, Keighley, Shipley, Bingley and Bradford.
