Event Overview

The It's In My Blood Awareness Walk & 5K Run is an annual event held at Delaware Park in downtown Buffalo. It features two main activities: a timed 5K Run/Walk and an untimed 1.75-mile Awareness Walk.

Race Details

The 5K Run starts at 9:00 AM. The course is a two-loop route within Delaware Park, finishing near St. George Orthodox Church. The start line is a short walk from the finish line. One water station is available on the course, and bottled water is provided at the finish. The 1.75-mile Awareness Walk starts at 10:00 AM from the same location and completes one loop around the park.

Registration and Logistics

Online registration remains open until the day of the event. Packet pickup occurs near the finish line starting at 7:30 AM. Registration by a specified early date guarantees an event T-shirt in the requested size. Fees are listed as $30 for the 5K ($35 on race day) and $5 for the walk ($10 on race day). A virtual participation option is available for the 5K where participants can complete their run/walk between August 1 and September 1, 2026, with an event shirt mailed to them.

Post-Race and Awards

A post-race celebration includes a complimentary lunch from a food truck, bottled water, and music. Awards are given for the 5K: medals for the first overall male and female finishers, and gold, silver, or bronze medals for age group winners. All participants can download custom finisher certificates and view photos from the official results page.

Supporting Cause

The event supports the Western New York BloodCare organization, which assists individuals and families affected by bleeding and clotting disorders through education, social gatherings, financial aid, and advocacy. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
