Irvine/Orange County Turkey Trot 5K & 1 Mile
The Irvine/Orange County Turkey Trot 5K & 1 Mile takes place on Thanksgiving Day at the Irvine Valley College campus. This holiday event features a flat and scenic course that travels around the perimeter of the college, passing by citrus groves and pumpkin patches. The course is designed to be walker-friendly and stroller-ready, though the college does not permit dogs on the run course.
Participants can choose from several distances and categories:
- 5K Turkey Trot: A chip-timed race for all ages on a flat perimeter course.
- 1 Mile Turkey Dash: A non-timed fun run or walk on an out-and-back course.
- Turkey Feast Combo: A challenge involving both the 1 Mile and the 5K races back-to-back.
- Kid's Gobble Wobble: Shorter distances including a 50-yard Diaper Dash, 100-yard Tot Trot, 1/4 Mile, and 1/2 Mile youth races.
All participants receive a custom cast finisher medal, a themed event shirt, a custom race bib, and a slice of pumpkin pie at the finish line. The 5K event is professionally chip-timed, with trophies awarded to the top three overall male and female finishers. Division awards are also provided for the top three runners in five-year age spans ranging from age 10 and under to 80 and over.
The race site includes a holiday expo. Parking is available on-campus for a fee, and organizers recommend arriving early as specific campus entrances close shortly before the main race begins. The event proceeds regardless of weather conditions, occurring rain or shine. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
