Ipswich Ale Half Marathon
The Ipswich Ale Half Marathon takes place on April 25, 2026, in Ipswich, Massachusetts, with the course starting and finishing at Crane Beach (310 Argilla Rd.). The route begins with a climb around the Crane Estate in the first mile, locally called "Storming the Castle," then heads west on Argilla Road past open farmland, salt marshes and stone walls. The course runs through neighborhoods along the Ipswich River before returning to Argilla Road for the final miles back to the beach.
The measured but not certified course has a total ascent of 576 feet and a maximum elevation of 157 feet. Roads remain open to traffic; police officers, course marshals, medical personnel and volunteers will be deployed along the route. There are five water tables at approximately miles 2.5, 5, 7.5, 10 and 11.5, with Gatorade available at the 5 and 10 mile stations. Restroom options include Crane Beach restrooms and porta johns at the start/finish area and on course at about miles 4.5, 7.5 and 9.5.
Race services include race t-shirts distributed during bib pick-up on the days before and the morning of the event, a finisher medal for each finisher, cash awards for top finishers, and a post-race beach party with recovery food, pizza, hot dogs and Ipswich Ale. The event is hosted by the Ipswich-Rowley Rotary and net proceeds support the Ipswich Rotary Charitable Trust for local charities and scholarships.
