Interstate 17 Trail Run
The Interstate 17 is a trail race held at State Line Lookout in Closter, New Jersey. The course traverses viewpoints along the Hudson River, crossing between New Jersey and New York. This event consists of a single distance:
- 17 Miles
The race structure begins with an initial one-mile out-and-back section on a closed road to organize the field. Following this, participants complete a four-mile loop four times. The first three loops are run in a counterclockwise direction, while the final loop is completed clockwise. Runners must check in at the end of each loop to have their time cards punched.
The terrain is described as rugged and technical with over 5,000 feet of elevation change. The course includes sections of rock-strewn dirt trails, steep descents on jagged stone stairs, and smooth dirt paths along the river. Participants will encounter two different boulder scrambles where the use of hands may be required for navigation. The route also passes a waterfall before ascending the cliffs back toward the start area via switchbacks and cross-country skiing trails.
A fully stocked aid station is located at the start and finish area, accessible at miles 1, 5, 9, and 13. It provides water, sports drinks, and various snacks. Participants are encouraged to carry their own hydration systems due to the distance between refills and the technical nature of the terrain. This event does not provide awards or medals.
