Event Overview
The Independence Rhode Race takes place in Bristol, Rhode Island, in partnership with the Bristol Fourth of July Committee. The event coincides with the historic Fourth of July celebrations in the community. The course passes through downtown streets, featuring views of historic homes, the town common, and the America's Cup Museum. Participants run along the coastline and through the grounds of Roger Williams University. The route also follows the local parade route before concluding at Independence Park by the water.
Race Formats
There are several ways to participate in the event:
- Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile individual road race.
- 2 Person Relay: A 13.1 mile event split into two segments of 7.5 miles and 5.6 miles.
- Virtual Half Marathon: A 13.1 mile distance completed independently between June 1 and June 30.
The 2 person relay utilizes an exchange zone located near Roger Williams University. Teams use a race bib belt as a baton to track the total team time. Participants in the relay are responsible for their own transportation to and from the exchange zone, where parking is available. Awards are provided for the top male, female, and open teams.
