2026 Imperial Challenge Event
The Imperial Challenge is a multi-discipline winter event held in Breckenridge, Colorado. This competition, organized by the Breckenridge Recreation Department, functions as a pseudo triathlon that incorporates running, uphill climbing, and downhill descent.
The course begins at the Breckenridge Recreation Center located at 880 Airport Rd. Participants travel from the recreation center to the base of Peak 7. At this location, a transition area is set up in the parking lot beneath the Peak 7 Gondola Station at Crystal Peak Lodge. Following the transition to uphill equipment, competitors ascent to the summit of Peak 8, reaching an elevation of 12,987 feet. The final segment of the event consists of a downhill descent that concludes back at the base of Peak 7.
Available participation categories include:
- Winter Triathlon - Runners
- Winter Triathlon - SkiMo
- Winter Triathlon - Retro Open
- Winter Triathlon - Heavy Metal Rec Open
- Winter Triathlon - Splitboard Snowboard
- Winter Triathlon - Team Duo
- Winter Triathlon - Team Relay
The transition area provides bike racks on a first-come, first-served basis, with specific racks designated for the Retro Open category. A gear drop-off process is available at the transition area starting in the morning. Due to limited space at the drop-off point, participants may use the Gondola to transport uphill gear and bike locks. Visit the organization's website for the most recent information.
