Imperial Challenge - Breckenridge

The Imperial Challenge is a springtime town-to-peak race organized by Race Breck and the Town of Breckenridge Recreation Department. The event begins at the Breckenridge Recreation Center and travels via County Road 3 to the Breckenridge Ski Resort, followed by a mountain ascent to the top of Peak 8 at 12,987 feet and a final downhill back toward the base of Peak 7.

The event includes multiple competition categories: Runners, SkiMo, Retro Open, Heavy Metal/Rec Open (skis required), Splitboard/Snowboard, Team Relay, and Team Duo. Categories have specific equipment expectations: runners may run the bike section, Retro Open competitors pedal with all uphill and downhill gear, SkiMo and other racers start on bikes for the first portion, and Team Relay and Team Duo offer shared-course options with paired teammates finishing together.

Logistics notes provided by the organizer include a limited gear drop-off area beneath the Peak 7 gondola at Crystal Peak Lodge, first-come bike racks, and a requirement that cyclists wear helmets during the bike portion. Participants are responsible for bike security and should stage a lock. Packet pickup and on-site registration are handled at the Breckenridge Recreation Center.
