Race in the Clouds - Alma Dirt Festival
The Alma Dirt Festival is a multi-day outdoor event held in Alma, Colorado, at an elevation of 10,600 feet. The festival takes place in a meadow located half a mile from downtown Alma, offering views of surrounding 14,000-foot mountains. The event features a variety of off-road disciplines across different days.
The courses utilize a multi-loop figure-eight design that passes through the expo area at the Buckskin Cemetery Meadow multiple times. The terrain consists of a mix of graded county roads, forest service jeep tracks, and single-track sections. High-country elements include two significant climbs per loop, fast descents, and technical stretches.
Available event formats include:
- Trail Running Races on Sunday.
- Mountain Bike Races on Saturday.
- Off-Road Duathlon (bike and run) on Saturday.
- Kids' Pedal & Dash Bash (free bike and/or run) for ages 12 and under on Friday.
The festival provides dispersed camping directly at the start and finish line area in the Alma Meadow. Facilities include porta-potties and trash containers, though participants must provide their own water and camping essentials. Post-race amenities feature homemade food and beverages from local partners.
Awards are presented to the top finishers in male, female, and non-binary categories. Age group divisions range from under-23 to 60 plus, with specific divisions for middle school and high school athletes. The event is sanctioned by USA Triathlon.
