Event overview
The Sheep Mountain Trail Runs take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026, in Fairplay, Colorado, with the Start/Finish at the Town of Fairplay Beach/Events Platform. The event offers the following distances:
- Half Marathon
- 50k
- 50-Mile
The event has a runner capacity of 300 and a time limit of 16 hours. All finishers receive a finisher's award. Gender-specific race shirts and finisher medals are listed as included, though late registrations are not guaranteed these items. No podium or age-group awards are offered; DFL and Transcendence Awards are presented. No awards will be mailed.
Course and logistics
The course averages over 10,600 feet elevation and uses a mix of technical singletrack, remote forest service roads, flowing dirt county roads, and USFS fire roads, with some rocky sections. Aid stations are described as well stocked. Drop bags are permitted at specified aid stations for the 50-Mile and 50k distances; no drop bags are allowed for the Half Marathon.
Mid-race drop-down options are available: 50-Mile starters may drop to the 50k at Brown's Pass aid station, and 50-Mile or 50k starters may drop to the Heavy Half at the Horseshoe aid station (first time through). There is no drop-down option for the Heavy Half and no refunds or credits for distance changes.
Pacers and crews are allowed under event rules for the 50-Mile at select locations. Camping is permitted on site for tents, camper vans, roof-top tents, and trailers; sleeping in vehicles is allowed. The event is run under permits from USFS Pike National Forest - South Park Ranger District, Park County, Town of Fairplay, BLM, and local private landowners.
