Event overview
The Sheep Mountain Trail Runs take place on Saturday, August 1, 2026 in Fairplay, Colorado. The event is organized by the Human Potential Running Series and uses the Town of Fairplay Beach / Events Platform as the start/finish area. The race has a runner capacity of 300 and a general time limit of 16 hours. Distances offered:

Course, logistics and policies
The course averages over 10,600 feet in elevation and includes dirt county roads, USFS fire roads, technical trail sections, and remote forest service roads. Well-stocked aid stations are provided; drop bags are allowed at specified aid stations for 50-mile and 50k runners. The event allows mid-race drop down options: 50-mile runners may drop to the 50k at Brown's Pass, and 50-mile or 50k runners may drop to the Half at the Horseshoe aid station on first pass. There is no drop down option for the Heavy Half. Crews and pacers are allowed only under specific rules - pacers are permitted for 50-mile runners at designated aid stations. All finishers receive a finisher's award; there are no podium or age-group awards and no awards will be mailed. Weather in the area during the season can be highly variable, including rain, snow, wind, hail, or thunderstorms, with average highs near 70°F and lows near 43°F.
