Sheep Mountain Trail Runs : Fairplay, CO

The Sheep Mountain Trail Runs is an annual trail and ultrarunning event in Fairplay, Colorado, held on August 1, 2026. The event is presented by the Human Potential Running Series and lists the Town of Fairplay Beach / Events Platform on Platte Drive as the start and finish location. The course sits at an average elevation above 10,600 feet and follows a mixture of flowing dirt county roads, USFS fire roads, remote forest service roads, and sections of technical, rocky trail.

The event has a runner capacity of 300 and an overall time limit of 16 hours for applicable distances. Aid stations are described as well stocked. Drop bags are permitted at specified aid stations for the 50 Mile and 50k; there are no drop bags for the Half Marathon. The 50 Mile and 50k include mid-race drop down options to shorter distances at designated aid stations; there is no drop down option for the Half Marathon. Crews are allowed only for the 50 Mile at select locations. Pacers are permitted for the 50 Mile with pickup locations noted and only one pacer at a time; pacers must arrange their own logistics.

Participants are advised that weather in the Colorado mountains can be highly variable during this season, including rain, wind, hail, snow, and thunderstorms.
